The band describes their sound as "angry punk" whose lyrics carry an underlying thematic philosophy that "not everything works out for everyone." Formed in Oslo, Norway in 2010, the band consists of Eirik Ekholdt (vocals), Geir Zahl (guitar), Morten Rørvig (guitar), Bjørnar Berg (bass), and Lars Kirkerud (drums). The speaker will release themselves from the lie and move onĮxploding Head Syndrome is a Norwegian hardcore punk band. I'll let go of this lie, and i'll soon be gone The problem is too overwhelming and difficult to handle The situation is always unfair and impossible to win The speaker is resolved in their decision and won't be swayed No one will ever change your mind, and no one will make it stop Thinking constantly about the release of the situation Spending all those days just fantasizing about the drop We hold on to the lies, for much too fucking longīoth parties continued to live a lie and deceive themselves for too long The problem is overwhelming and difficult to handle The situation is unfair and impossible to win The speaker was incorrect in their beliefs or actionsīoth parties were living a lie and held onto it for too long Someone else was correct in their beliefs or actions You gave it all, but all is not enough, no shame in admitting, it was just too toughĪcknowledging that even though one gave their all, it still wasn't enough and that there's no shame in admitting defeat Wondering why anyone would continue fighting in a situation they know to be fake Why should you keep on fighting, when it's clearly all pretend Questioning the purpose of trying when things always seem to go wrong What is the use in trying, when all goes wrong again In the end, the speaker decides to let go, and they will soon be gone. The final stanza speaks to the ultimate reality of giving up, that sometimes it is better to admit defeat and move on, rather than hold on to a lie that can never be true. The line "spending all those days just fantasizing about the drop" suggests that sometimes the only escape from the trap of you find yourself in is by surrendering to it. The second stanza uses repetition of the phrase "we held on to the lie, for far too long" to hammer home the idea that sometimes we convince ourselves to keep fighting against insurmountable odds, that sometimes the fight is rigged and there is nothing we can do. The speaker then suggests that there is "no shame in admitting" that sometimes it is just too tough, a stark reminder that perhaps sometimes it is okay to let go. The line "You gave it all, but all is not enough" speaks to the powerlessness that one can feel against overwhelming odds. They question why they should keep pushing, when everything seems to be pretend. The first stanza sets the stage for the theme of the song the speaker wonders about the point of trying when everything goes wrong regardless. The lyrics of End Game by Exploding Head Syndrome speak to the struggle of trying to fight against a rigged system, a hopeless battle where it feels like all efforts are futile.
